Cadillac XLR Fail – We Hardly Knew Ye
The money train is stopping short of the Cadillac XLR for 2010. General Motors, in one of many efforts to save money during their financial disaster, have decided to end production of the XLR convertible coupe. It’s not very surprising that the sporty yet lackluster Cadillac XLR would be slashed, only 1250 XLR’s were sold last year.

This new is bad for the Bowling Green, Kentucky plant where the Cadillac is was produced. According to World Car Fans: GM’s Bowling Green plant has been closed, and will remain that way until February 23, due to the company’s financial problems. 154 workers there, including the 40 staff members dedicated to the XLR, will be laid off by March 1.

Introduced at the 1999 NAIAS as Cadillac Evoq concept, the Cadillac XLR production model first saw life on public roads in 2003, when a base model ran $76,000. In five years, that price has climbed over $10,000, with supercharged versions selling for over $105,000. All this cash would get you a choice of V8 engines: 4.6-liter 320 horse power or a 443 horse power model. So long Caddy XLR – we hardly knew ye.
