Cadillac ATS finally revealed itself at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.

The auto maker is hoping competition like BMW and Mercedes are worried. Expect the new, smaller sedan at dealer lots later this year. Cadillac is also betting on vehicles like ATS to bring in new and youthful shoppers onto dealer lots.

The 2013 Cadillac ATS comes standard with a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine. Turbo-charged, this vehicle produces 270 horsepower. ATS is slated to become the company’s next generation flagship.

“American manufacturers like Cadillac use style and panache to attract attention, and win new buyers,” according to Detroit News writer Neil Winton.

Cadillac also announced plans to add diesel variants overseas. Its high output, four-cylinder engine will most likely produce top level performance and fuel economy, big selling points for European shoppers.

Stay tuned for more specifications on Cadillac ATS.

Coming to the 2012 North American International Auto Show (aka: Detroit Auto Show) Cadillac will present its game changing 2013 ATS sedan. GM plans on introducing this model along with three other concepts – one from each of their brands (GMC, Chevy, Buick).

The auto maker hopes to target foreign luxury competition with this smaller, sportier sedan. According to Mary Barra, GM senior VP of global product development, “ATS is a crucial part of Cadillac’s expansion. ATS enters the biggest market segment in the global luxury car industry, both in terms of volume and importance.”

ATS, which is Cadillac’s latest attempt at drawing in new, younger buyers, will go on sale in late 2012 (as a 2013 model) and include coupe / convertible variants by 2015.

The 2009 Cadillac Escalade. Still at the top of the charts, both pickup truck and SUV variants of the luxury auto are the favorite targets of US car thieves.

According to The IIHS and Motor Authority: Cadillac Escalade SUV is still the most stolen vehicle in the country, and is roughly six times as likely to be targeted by thieves as a typical 2008 to 2010 model year vehicle.

The worst offender is the Cadillac Escalade EXT, with 14 out of every 1,000 models insured likely to have a theft claim lodged by its owner.

To make matters worse, the Escalade also has one of the steepest average losses per claim–a surprisingly high $10,555 per theft. This costs insurers, on average, about $114 for every model insured every year, though the figure has been dropping over the years.

Cadillac’s latest vehicle idea, the Ciel “Sky” concept, was revealed at Pebble Beach last week. Imagine driving down the long, warm California Coast Highway, top down, wind blowing through your hair, sexy girl (or guy) hanging out in the passenger seat. That’s the mindset of Cadillac designers when they came up with their Ciel (French for Sky) prototype. Introduced at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, this drop-top was certainly an attention grabber.

The four-door, four-passenger convertible is built with a short, polished aluminum windshield. Reportedly it will be powered with a twin-turbo 3.6 liter V6 with 425 bhp, and 430 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant will support the all-wheel-drive system.

Inside, Ciel Concept features interior finishes in Italian Olive wood, and rides on brushed nickel-plated, aluminum wheels, that are 22 inches in size.

Obama went on a tour of his ancestral roots, but was delayed when his Cadillac Limo became stuck at the airport. See, even the President gets delayed while trying to disembark from a flight.

While the presidential motorcade was leaving an airport in Dublin, Ireland to cheering crowds, “Beast” – the heavily armored Cadillac limo made especially for our 44th Commander in Chief, became stuck on a crushed speed bump. The Secret Service insists the stuck limo was actually a decoy.

“The Beast” is a fitting name for the Cadillac vehicle. It holds a self contained rear compartment with separate oxygen supply and firearms hidden throughout. Windows and doors are 8 inches thick. The chassis and undercarriage can withstand armor piercing bullets and grenade attacks. Its tires are Kevlar-reinforced and can escape at high speeds even when flattened.

It took some time, but the vehicle was finally freed, and Obama went on with his journey through the Motherland. He stopped in a pub to drink some Guinness, and gander at all the Presidential swag local businesses were trying to sell in honor of his visit – from cup holders to cigarette lighters.

The actual Boys are nowhere to be seen. But who cars, this video is hilarious, and is our favorite Beasties project since one of their tunes showed up in the 2009 Star Trek reboot. Check out a glimpse of a Cadillac (El Dorado maybe?) in this trailer for their full-length parody. Oh, and the new album drops May 3rd.

Cadillac reports that ATS “will have an ‘Art & Science’ design with vertical lighting units and a dual exhaust system.” Engine options should include a turbocharged four-cylinder and a V6 engine.
