The auto maker is hoping competition like BMW and Mercedes are worried. Expect the new, smaller sedan at dealer lots later this year. Cadillac is also betting on vehicles like ATS to bring in new and youthful shoppers onto dealer lots.

The 2013 Cadillac ATS comes standard with a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine. Turbo-charged, this vehicle produces 270 horsepower. ATS is slated to become the company’s next generation flagship.

“American manufacturers like Cadillac use style and panache to attract attention, and win new buyers,” according to Detroit News writer Neil Winton.

Cadillac also announced plans to add diesel variants overseas. Its high output, four-cylinder engine will most likely produce top level performance and fuel economy, big selling points for European shoppers.

The auto maker hopes to target foreign luxury competition with this smaller, sportier sedan. According to Mary Barra, GM senior VP of global product development, “ATS is a crucial part of Cadillac’s expansion. ATS enters the biggest market segment in the global luxury car industry, both in terms of volume and importance.”

ATS, which is Cadillac’s latest attempt at drawing in new, younger buyers, will go on sale in late 2012 (as a 2013 model) and include coupe / convertible variants by 2015.

According to The IIHS and Motor Authority: Cadillac Escalade SUV is still the most stolen vehicle in the country, and is roughly six times as likely to be targeted by thieves as a typical 2008 to 2010 model year vehicle.

To make matters worse, the Escalade also has one of the steepest average losses per claim–a surprisingly high $10,555 per theft. This costs insurers, on average, about $114 for every model insured every year, though the figure has been dropping over the years.

Designed to be General Motor’s new rear-wheel-drive sports sedan, Cadillac ATS is set to replace the slot beneath CTS, which is expected to grow in size with a 2014 redesign. Cadillac reports that ATS “will have an ‘Art & Science’ design with vertical lighting units and a dual exhaust system.” Engine options should include a turbocharged four-cylinder and a V6 engine.

The ATS will be constructed at GM’s Lansing Grand River assembly plant, while riding on the new rear-wheel drive Alpha platform. This set-up can also be outfitted with all-wheel drive.

Cadillac’s all new ATS is scheduled to launch late next year. GM reports the sedan will be followed by a more luxurious “estate” model, along with coupe and convertible variants.

One might think a “hybrid” Escalade is rather useless – but you’ll be surprised to find just how powerful yet fuel efficient this eco-tank can be.

The new Escalade features an updated Two Mode hybrid powertrain. This combines a a 6.0-liter V8, with Active Fuel Management and variable valve timing, to an electrical continuously variable transmission (eCVT) containing two electric motor/generators and four fixed-ratio gears. The Hybrid stores energy captured in braking and coasting in a 300-volt bickel-metal-hydride battery pack. The vehicle taps into that energy when accelerating or climbing hills, Escalade Hybrid comes with an EPA fuel economy ratings of 20 mpg city, 23 highway.

The 2011 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is offered in a Platinum Edition model that includes: heated and cooled cupholders, backseat DVD entertainment, and an upgraded interior, and even base models include tri-zone climate control, power-adjustable pedals, power running boards, and a powerful Bose sound system.

The 1965 Diesel De Ville comes to us out of North Carolina. This boat also includes a 12 valve Cummins diesel engine. Obviously not stock, nor is it even from the same era! The powerplant came out of a 1995 Dodge 2500. It replaces a 429 V8, standard in De Villes of the time.

The body has been painted flat black, and combined with a red vinyl roof. The car looks like something Batman’s evil villains would drive – and we mean the 1966 Batman, or maybe the Jack Nicholson / Tim Burton version. According to the Caddy’s seller, the paint isn’t perfect but “no one will notice when you are blowing black smoke all over them.”

“General Motors Co’s Cadillac is returning to production-car racing after a three-year absence,” said Don Butler, the brand’s marketing chief.

The CTS-V series will be the base of the race car in a Sports Car Club of America World Challenge, which will include 10 production-car races in the US and Canada, from March to October 2011. Cadillac left the series as it went from the first-generation CTS to the second, Butler said on Monday.

Cadillac’s CTS-V line, including a coupe, wagon and sedan, has a 6.2-liter, V8 engines that deliver 556 horsepower. “The V-series is being advertised on television for the first time,” Butler said.

Jim Campbell, GM chief for performance vehicles and motorsports, added that what engineers learn on the track will helps when it comes to constructing production models.

To earn a Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must earn the highest ratings in all four IIHS safety evaluations, as well as have electronic stability control, which are standard on the SRX.

IIHS uses research of real-world crashes to conduct its roof strength test. “To test for roof strength, a metal plate is pushed against one corner of a vehicle’s roof at a constant speed. The maximum force sustained by the roof before 5-inches of crush is compared to the vehicle’s weight to find the strength-to-weight ratio.”

This test gives a good assessment of vehicle structural protection in rollover crashes. Good rated vehicles have roofs that can withstand a force equal to at least 4 times the vehicle’s weight. The 2010 SRX withstood a force equal to 4.14 times weight. For comparison, the current federal standard is only 1.5 times weight. The Top Safety Pick award applies to models built after May 2010.

The Cadillac Model A Runabout, one of the first-ever Caddy’s on the road, will be sold by RM next month. RM Auctions is planning a huge event to sell off dozens of classic vehicles. This Model A will undoubtedly be one of the oldest and most unique.

2500 Model A’s were constructed during their first year. This model was noted for its ability to navigate up hills, which was a huge automotive feat back then. The 1903 Cadillac Model A Runabout was powered by an improved engine designed by Henry Martyn Leland and partner Robert C Faulconer, two years previously.
